When an e-commerce business is preparing to work with a third-party logistics (3PL) provider, there are several critical steps to ensure a smooth and efficient partnership.

    • Leverage the 3PL’s existing relationships with carriers to access negotiated rates and discounts.

    • Consider different shipping methods (e.g., ground, air, expedited) based on order size, weight, and delivery time requirements.

Carrier Selection:

  • Select carriers that align with your delivery speed and reliability requirements.

  • Ensure carriers can meet specific needs, such as international shipping or special handling for fragile or hazardous materials.

  • Establish clear criteria for selecting carriers, including transit times, service reliability, and cost.
